Wagga City Golf Report 14-1-2018


The Vets played a 2-man ambrose last Monday, and the team of Barney Matthews and John Hazell ran hot with a one-over par score of 37 for a nett score of 32 for an easy win from Len Jenkins and Grahame Winson 33 ¾ nett, followed by Don Kirwan and Don Thorne 34 nett on a c/b from John Burkinshaw and Eddie Wall. The boys competed in a stableford event on Thursday, when Don Kirwan finished off a good week with 21 pts for a one shot win from Dennis Adams, Bob Martin and Bill O’Rourke, followed by Phil Powell, John Burkinshaw and Ron Culgan on 19 pts.

The Ladies continued their Summer Cup in the form of a stroke event on Tuesday, and in Div 1, June Byrnes scored 36 nett for a narrow win from Jan Marks 37, and Sue Matthews 39 nett. In Div 2, Colleen Mavroudis enjoyed a c/b win from Marg Hogan with 38 nett, with Ann Packer third with 39 nett. NTP: Sue Matthews. Ball Comp to 39 pts. The girls returned for a stableford event on Friday, and Dee Harley showed the way in Div 1 with 20 pts, from June Byrnes 17, and Trish Gray 16 pts. In Div 2, Val Williams scored 19 pts for a win, from Sue Oakman 18, and Marg Hogan 16 pts on a c/b.

Jim Briggs found his form big time when he scored 41 pts to win last Wednesdays members’ stableford A Grade event, with early-starter, Tony Merrigan, runner-up on 39 pts. In B Grade, John Hoey also fired up for 40 pts for a win, from Roger Taylor 37 pts, while Darryl Dickenson had the day’s best score of 42 pts to take care of C Grade, from Brent Webb 41 pts. NTP’s: Mick Laurent, Warren Lynch and Roger Taylor. Ball comp to 35 pts.

The boys returned for another stableford event on Saturday, and the course was playing long and tough. Max Horsnell’s score of  37 pts was enough to win A Grade, followed by Matt Tooze and Tony Merrigan on 35 pts. In

B Grade, Eddie Wall had the round of the day with 39 pts, for a win from Matt McMullen and John Hazell, 37 pts. Big-hitting Sam Beer scored 35 pts to win C Grade on a c/b from Maurie Hogan and Rowan Laurent, while the Ball Comp went to a mere 33 pts on a c/b. NTP’s: Roman Adamcewicz, who knocked it to less than half a metre on the long and tough 9th hole, Geoff Asgill on the 13th, and Matt Tooze on the 18th.

The week wound up with Tim’s nine hole Sunday stableford event, which was won by Steve Post with 25 pts, from Garry Rake 22 pts on a c/b from Ben  Vukurra and Steve Seetanna. Ball comp to 19 pts.
