Wagga City Golf Report 1-11-2017


The Business Girls completed their 72- hole Championships last Sunday, with congratulations going to Maureen Foley who, after many years of trying, finally won her first ‘major’ event with a four round total of 291 nett. Well done also to runner-up, Lyn McMullen, with a score of 296 nett. Lyn also collected the 36-hole trophy with a score of 142 nett, from Lazetta Gaffney, 145 nett. The girls once again thank their loyal sponsor, Kristopher Graydon Jewelers, for their seventeen consecutive years of support.

Monday’s vets saw Bob Hodge score 32 nett for a solid win from Peter Briggs, Bernie Mogford and John Hazell 34 nett, and Dennis Adams, Phil Powell and John Burkinshaw, each on 35 nett. Bob carried his good form into Thursday’s event with another 32 nett to beat Ron Culgan and Tony Thompson by a shot, followed by Phil Powell and Terry McInerney 34, and Tony Pollard 35.

The Ladies held their Presentation Day last Tuesday, as well as competing in a Canadian Foursomes event. Winners of the foursomes event were Anne Leonard and Trish Gray, from the teams of Sue Oakman and June Byrnes, Billie Johnstone and Carmel Pearce, and Carol Martin and Anne Turner.  NTP’s to Anne Leonard, Carmel Pearce and Joan Veerhuis. Amongst a host of worthy winners over the season, Dee Harley stood out by claiming the coveted Medal of Medals. The ladies returned for a Stableford event on Friday, when Jan Marks scored 39 pts to win Div 1; Billie Johnstone won Div 2 with 38 pts, and Fay Baker won Div 3 with 36 pts on a c/b.

Wednesday’s members’ stableford saw Grahame Winson get home in A Grade with 43 pts, from Andrew White 38 pts, while in B Grade, Graham Coulton also collected 43 pts for a win, from Kerry Smith 41 pts. NTP’s to Matt McMullen, Peter Lyons and Grahame Winson.

Kyle Harrison scored 41stableford pts for a win in Saturday’s A Grade event, from Mick Hazell, 38 pts. Steve Purcell also played well for 41 pts to claim the B Grade event, from Mark McIntyre 40 pts, while in C Grade, Bruce Masters totaled 39 pts to win by shot from Frank Veliscek. NTP’s to Ross Henley, Ross Ayton and Phil Harrison. Balls to 34 pts c/b.

Tim Barlow’s Sunday comp saw Rick Leonard play ten under his handicap for 46 pts for a big win, from Steve Seetana, 40 pts. Balls to 38 pts on a c/b.
