Wagga City Golf Club Report 10-12-2017

The Vets kick-started another week of golf at the City Club when they played a 4BBB stableford event last Monday.  Consistent winners, Eddie Wall and John Burkinshaw, combined well yet again to collect the main voucher with a score of 25 pts, one clear of Don Thorne and Don Kirwan, followed by the team of Peter Kirkman and Tony Martin 24 pts, and John Hazell and Bill O’Rourke on 23 pts on a c/b. The old fellas returned on Thursday for a single stableford event, and it seems a month-long break from the game did Garry Forde no harm whatsoever as he compiled 19 pts to win on a c/b from Ron Culgan, followed by Len Jenkins 18 pts, Peter Kirkman, Don Thorne and Tony Thompson 17 pts,, Dennis Adams and Terry McInerney 16 pts, and Bert Adams, 15 pts on a c/b.

The ladies nine-hole Summer Comp continued in the form of a stableford event last Tuesday, with Trish Gray showing the way with 16 pts, from Jenny Hazell 14, and Joan Veerhuis 13 pts.  The girls returned on Friday for a single stroke event, and it was well done to Colleen Mavroudis who scored 36 nett to get home by three shots from Vi Gardner and Anne Leonard, each on 39 nett. Ball comp to 41 nett.

Members played a two-person ambrose last Saturday, and once again, Eddie Wall took the honours, on this occasion, combining with low-marker, Warren Lynch to score 62 1/5 nett, followed by Max Horsnell and Peter Treharne 64 ¼, and John Hoey and James Richards 64 ¾.  NTP’s went to Jim Briggs, Brad Burkinshaw and Roman Adamcewicz, while the ball comp went to teams with a nett score of 71 nett or better.
